Toshiba have finally announced that it is no longer going to be developing for or supporting the HD-DVD format. This on top of the Wal-mart announcement a couple of weeks is most likely going to kill off the format for good.

Interestingly I'd always thought HD-DVD would win this format war if for no other reason than the name would be more familiar to consumers, but it seems that it's the consumers who have stood by and watched the Hollywood distributors, electronics manufacturers and big retailers battle it out.

I'm pleased this seems to have been resolved now as I'm on the cusp of going HD; considering either a Panasonic or Philips 32" set, and now have a great excuse to convince the budget holder that a Playstation 3 is a requirement!
